Networking Niceties: The Value of Support Systems in DS Companies

12193781_10100476130757746_7873075486611397163_n    Hello, Lovelies!

I hope that you had a blessed and perfectly perfect weekend in every way! My little was dressed like a kitty, and she loved it except for the face-painting part! There’s nothing like this time of year. I’ve definitely had a good weekend and week as a whole since I spent a lot of time reviving my direct sales businesses. As I did so, I came across a COTM group (see previous post) that changed my entire perspective. I came to realize that, more than ever, we as reps need to be helping one another. After all, how can we expect the public to purchase our products if we ourselves don’t take the time to support one another when we can?

Of course, it’s impossible to ALWAYS make a purchase for a ds rep, but the overall community of direct sales truly should start from within. As we choose a company, it’s so crucial to form networks with others since we, of all people, “get” the challenges of initiating and closing a sale. It’s tricky, and good word-of-mouth is absolutely essential. I’ve changed my entire focus and am now completely committed to encouraging, promoting, and purchasing from other reps when possible. For instance, I don’t need to hit the drugstore for makeup when I have a fellow consultant who would likely value that business! Of course, we can’t purchase everything from other reps, but supporting when we are able will breathe new life into direct sales…Building that community and exchange of opportunity would make a huge difference!

I’ve met so many incredible ladies this week who are also “catching the vision” of what I’m doing in the vast realm of marketing, and it’s been a blessing to share my passion for ds with them and to help them in any way I can. Here’s to hoping for a productive, exciting, and encouraging week as we work our business. Never forget your “why!” Mine is right beside me, cuddling and snuggling as the rain drizzles down. ❤

Much Love and Blessings for the Week Ahead,

K.

Tired of Struggling in DS Companies? Behold the Magic of “Consultant of the Month!”

Okay, so it’s been awhile since I’ve blogged, and I’ve missed it SO much! I’ve been “in and out” of the business circuit for about 3 years or so, give or take, and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve learned WHAT to do and, most importantly, what NOT to do. Wanna know the secret to getting your sales boosted, meeting quotas, and more?

The COTM (Consultant of the Month) group.

Don’t laugh. It’s going to change the way you think about direct sales. I’m in two companies, and I can promote them both, so now, I don’t have to choose. Here’s the lowdown:

The group works on a rotation, and you make a purchase a month, and we when it’s your month to host, you get 5 guaranteed sales from your buyers! It’s a good way to meet quotas and goals. The best thing is that anyone who joins the group makes an initial purchase to start, so if you know other reps who would benefit, you can really add to your sales FAST! I’m at the $20 per month level, which keeps things very manageable since I always could use something for a gift or for myself.

Essentially, you’re getting paid from others who join under you, you’re making 5 guaranteed sales, you’re promoting, AND you’re supporting other reps with one purchase a month. The change can be simple. You can buy your makeup from a fellow rep instead of going to a drugstore, you can buy a present for a teacher, friend, or family member, or just something you need for yourself! I started at $20 a month because I always spend this much per month on stuff I need, anyhow!

I do hope you consider joining a group, namely my group, which has almost 4,000 members to date! If you’re interested in learning more, comment below!

Much Love,

K.

Three Crucial Truths Every Freelancer Should Recognize…

write

As many of you know, I’m a freelance writer. Indeed, the name, “freelance,” definitely is a loaded word since there are countless perks to what I do, but my journey has certainly had its share of pitfalls. Just like the raw, uncut nature of my pieces before submission, I am a definite work-in-progress as I learn and grow as a writer and as an individual. Whether you’re an established freelancer or are just dipping your toe into the water, here are three crucial truths to keep in mind as you create an alternative stream of income while chasing the vision.

1. You Will Fall Forward — Often Multiple Times Per Day: Indeed, as a freelancer, many of the available gigs out there are heavily evaluative. In other words, each and every day that you tackle a project, there is a strong chance that your work will be heavily criticized or rejected outright, depending on the nature of your assignment. In my 3-year career as a freelancer, I experience rejection at least once a week. Last week, I encountered three instances of having my work either rejected, excessively criticized, or sent back for additional editing. However, the week before was a virtual gold mine of successful projects. There is a certain “ebb and flow,” and it’s essential to build a tough skin, learn from your mistakes, and fight to retain your place. It’s all part of the freelance lifestyle, and there’s simply no room for fear.

2. There is No Guarantee: When I first started freelancing, I expected guaranteed hours, just as one might hold at a traditional day job. However, I have discovered this to be nearly impossible. Again, your work is often strictly usage-based, so some days, you’ll experience more work than you can possibly manage. Other weeks? The “well” is far too dry for comfort. Therefore, the goal is to create multiple opportunity streams. In all honesty, I don’t think it’s possible to have too many opportunities lined up as long as you are meeting deadlines and staying organized and ahead of your game.

3. Get Ready to Work: Most importantly, as a freelancer, you must accept the fact that you might have to learn a new skill — to do what previously might have seemed impossible– in order to be successful. When I started content writing, I truly felt that I could never produce consistently solid content so quickly. However, I kept experimenting, practicing, learning, and taking the advice from my superiors to heart. Now, thanks to God’s grace and long hours of labor, I’ve been granted professional-grade status at two companies where I submit most of my content. It’s been tough. There have been many tears, many rejections, and many exhausting nights and days, but following a passion has never been easy for anyone. I’m done with complaining. I’m over it.

A lot of people talk a lot of flack about content writing, but I’m grateful that it puts food on the table while offering me the opportunity to share my voice. My companies have truly been good to me and respect me as a writer,  and, for the most part, my clients are generous, kind, and passionate about their projects, which is why I keep pushing forward.

Simply put, the most relevant advice I can offer you is to be both consistent and extremely teachable. Be hungry to learn, and never lose heart even though you will likely experience those “dark days of the soul” that leave your cheeks burning and your heart shifted a little to the left. Keep pushing, my friends, and never forget what drives you to follow your passion to the ends of the earth.

But We Believe…

Image

My grandmother passed away this week. That seems so impossible — so radically hard to grasp. I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that it did, indeed, happen. Her house is empty…there is a stillness that is absolutely stifling. And we’re left wondering why something so tragic had to happen to such a wonderful woman. She loved God. She loved her family. But these tragedies make us wonder why we’re even here. Why would a loving God inflict such pain on a family who misses their loved one more than they can bear?

My nights are filled with the tears that just refuse to stop shedding for her. All I can focus on is the pain of it all and how I wish that I could have borne that pain for her. Watching someone die it the ultimate test of faith, I think. It was a room full of people, but she was all only with her God. In her deepest agony, she gave up her suffering and flew to the arms of her Savior.

In the world’s eye, it’s a tragedy. In the eyes of her beloved friends a family, it’s a beautiful life that ended so bitterly. But for God, it was a joyful reuniting with Him in Paradise. Now, that’s hard to understand for us finite beings, but I know it’s true. All day today, I felt absolutely surrounded by her love — as if she was in the room with me and watching little Faith play and laugh. I can feel her right now as I’m sitting “hunched” over my computer screen (something she always chided me about!).

When you think of her laughing and playing with all of those sweet babies up above, Death loses its sting. Mammaw is no more pain. All of my life, she struggled in agonizing pain — diabetes, fibromyalgia, two occurrences of cancer, and so much more. Her body was weary from the burden, but she is now light. She can run again — playing again in the great outdoors that she loved so deeply. Our lives will never be the same — our life with her is over, but for her, it is just beginning. She’s praying for us by day and night and urging us to keep on staying strong. She fought bravely to the very end.

And now, as my eyes once again fill with tears, I leave behind the powerful, timeless Sonnet X by my beloved John Donne:

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou thinkst thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow
And soonest our best men with thee do go
Rest of their bones and soul’s delivery.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppies or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke. Why swellst thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die!

Needing a Change…

Hello, friends,

I wondered if I might borrow a second of your time…

Due to everything that’s been going on, I’ve had to place some things waaay on the back burner…I’m updating because I’m facing so many challenges and need some changes. Basically, I’m having trouble finding the time to work as much as I’d like. I’m determined to therefore grow my Beachbody business so that I can REPLACE my income while giving back 50% of all earnings to missions. Sound impossible? With God, all things are possible, so here’s where this is going:

I’m looking to work extensively with two individuals so that they can achieve Emerald coach status by summer. The group is “30 Days to Emerald” and will get you on the path to success in healthy living by helping and encouraging others. If you’re looking to supplement or replace your income (as I am), then we’re just going to do it! 🙂

First two commenters will receive Shakeology and tons of information. I hope that you will consider as I would absolutely love to have you on board as we seek to change so many lives, starting with our own. This business is HIS, so it’s time to trust that He will help us in all things as we seek better lives for ourselves, our families, and for each other.

What’s Our Purpose?

It’s been one of those weeks. I don’t think I can get out of bed in the AM, but it’s gotta happen. My grandmother suffered a massive stroke, and my mother apparently had a heart attack at some point and is at the hospital on the same floor. What I’m feeling now is so intense, and all I can think about is how much I deeply love my family and how resolved I am to change for good.

I want more than anything to take care of my family — to truly be there for every precious minute that I possibly can. Life is so short. I’ve heard this all of my life, and it really makes sense now. It made sense before, but seeing two people whom I deeply love suffer and look so frail has completely broken me. It makes all of the stupid things that I fill my time worrying about seem ridiculously pointless.

We’re all going to have to look Jesus in the eye and account for our time. It’s a scary thought if that time wasn’t spend helping others as much as possible. By serving others, we serve our Father. I’m saying this because I’m really seeing the point of it all. That “cup of water” given to the thirsty, that kind word spoken to someone who is hurting. Lately, I’ve been overwhelmed by the precious friends who are praying for my family. Their words are like honey — they are worth more than the rarest of gems…

There’s so much more to life. There’s other people who are waiting on the divine hand of Providence to grant them peace and help in a time of trouble. I’m ready to put this into action. My upline coach always stresses the importance of developing SOLID relationships with people — helping them as much as possible. And her goal is really powerful. I’m starting to see life in a completely different sense…in terms of that cosmic question, “What are we here for?” Is it for wealth, fame, self-worth? All posh if you consider that we’re all going to account for our time spent on this earth.

Words. Actions. God says that we’ll recognize Christians by HOW they live, and this has really convicted me. I’m not going to worry about money or image anymore because I know that God is going to meet my needs if I keep the focus on doing His work. The image of Christ is success enough.

Viewing the temporal, vulnerable state of our existence is a powerful thing. I humbly ask for prayer and that you let me know of any prayer requests. I can be reached here or at cafegirl777@gmail.com.

Here’s to hoping for a better week!

Spring Cleaning 101: Life on a Budget

OKAY, so it’s been a little while since my last post, and let me say that I’ve missed each and every one of you dearly. My readership is highly valued. Don’t you forget it! 😉

I’ve finally completed my M.A. graduation requirements. It’s been a long road, but I’m ready to click my heels and “pow” have it over! ❤

AND things in my life have straightened themselves out. I’m 1000% jazzed about my line of work, and my job search is OVER! I’m still in the business world, but my attention has turned to shopping rewards programs and couponing. No more MLM, direct sell, or anything like that (happy sigh). I’ve joined an INCREDIBLE network for shopping rewards, and I’ve uncovered a GOLD mine of money-saving ideas here lately, namely a newfound obsession with drugstore bargains. I’m serious.

Today, I scooped up some incredible liquid makeup (RIMMEL), lipstick, nail polish, and shampoo for under $8. Yep, I’m pretty proud of that. *WOOT* I’m having the time of my life uncovering ways to stretch our funds and S-A-V-E. It’s a win/win since more $$ means fewer hours at work. If I can offer you ANY advice– be it jobs, contract work, or more insight into what I do as a marketing mommy, I’m always here to help — and I DO mean help. I don’t pitch, scam, or harass, so be prepared to be genuinely HELPED.

Now, off for some sweet slumber next to my little miracle. ❤

Working at Home: The Plain Truth

There’s a LOT (I mean a LOT) of hype out there regarding the whole concept of “Working at Home.” We see it. It’s all over social media –people who appear deliriously happy about their business opportunities (typically MLM plans — Multi-Level-Marketing). But when you get down to it, you are STILL running a business. As the parent of a tiny child, let me tell you that it is a LOT of work. YOU have to make it successful. There’s no one standing over you and keeping you accountable. You are your OWN boss. But here’s the thing: Since you ARE a boss, you have to conduct your business as such. Below are two plain truths about working at home that will probably alter your perception if you’re relatively new to the work at home business circuit. For others who know the biz., well, I think it pretty much speaks for itself. :p

1. There are no set hours.

AHA. The perk that we ALL hear time and time again when we salivate with longing for a home-based job or business opportunity. But you have to think about what that means. It means that you can easily let things get out of hand and waste countless hours on the computer, basically making nothing to show for it. How do you compensate? The concept if QUALITY, not quantity. I’m learning this more every day.

I get more response from folks from a simple “like and comment” facebook pic. than I do from hours and hours of planning marketing strategies. I think it’s about maximizing your time, and after a year of solely working from home, I think I’m starting to understand what this means. It means that YOU have to establish boundaries for yourself and for your family. I can’t stress this enough. You HAVE to set these boundaries to safeguard your own sanity. If you don’t, you risk losing precious time with those you love and with yourself. So what do you do? Create your own business hours that are THE most convenient for you. Don’t listen to what other folks say about this. Only you know that’s best for your sanity.

I find that I work best at night. Period. This means that I’m shifting my focus so that my brain is programmed to teach at night after the baby is asleep. No more worrying all day about when and how I’m going to accomplish everything. I know that at night, I’m going to get it done, so I can stop worrying about work during the day and stressing out over how I’m going to balance half in the morning or half at night. If the baby is asleep, I can work. If she’s awake, then NO work — period. These are my personal parameters, and I promise that they’ll work beautifully for you, too. So rest during the times that you are free and completely devote your time to your family.

2. You’ll encounter unlimited earning potential and top training.

Look, I’m not here to bash anyone’s opportunity or upline, but here’s the honest truth: Some of this training seems like simple “busy work.” I know what you say, “But I have to keep accountable.” Yes, but is it doing that much good? How much time do you actually spend watching the training videos for your business? Do they really help your business that much, or is most of it simple marketing techniques that help you to achieve results? I find that talking to people and sharing my lifestyle have been the top ways of reaching out and sharing my opportunity with others.

People like to BUY, and not everyone is an entrepreneur at heart. A good friend of mine told me this, and it’s resonated with me ever since. I find myself getting downright frustrated by getting caught up in the hype of a business opportunity. I’m no professional marketer by ANY means, but I’m learning that staying committed to your business, building solid communications with others, and naturally sharing your products through personal testimony and fun events are the methods that usually prove effective when I’ve closed a sale.

Finally, let me close by affirming that I am NO professional marketer and have so much to learn. HOWEVER, as a business owner and work at home parent, I do want to let folks know of the reality before they jump in and become frustrated with demands of balancing work, family, school, and everything else.

I’d love to chat with you about anything and everything, so always feel that you can reach out.

Peace and love,

Katie

Learning from My Mistakes!

I’ve been a PATHETIC excuse for a business owner since losing Emerald Coach status in August, but that’s about to change. I’m going to COMPLETELY dive in and treat this as a real, true-blue business. Reading Mindy Wender’s story makes me even more inspired that I can do Beachbody FULL TIME from home, get out of debt. and help others, most importantly.

I finally found that opportunity last June. No scam, no gimmicks, and honestly, if you roll up those sleeves and burn some elbow grease, you CAN earn a full time income. That’s my goal since I need a job that allows me the flexibility to be the best mom I can be. I LOVE teaching and writing, but doing it full time is very stressful. If you’re interested, I’d love to work with you, too, and we can make this dream a reality. We can do this together, but I need you to dive in with me

live fearlessly

get healthy

help others

and don’t hold back!

We got this, and we’re going to rock ’14!
